Tiling Behind Your Stove

Writer's picture: WholewoodWholewood

You're putting the finishing touches on your kitchen remodel and one of the final things left to do is the kitchen tile behind the stove. As more minimal kitchen design trends emerge, some kitchens have begun to eliminate this tiling, but we think it's still a necessity in any kitchen!

Why do I need a backsplash tiles behind the stove?

Grease, heat, moisture, stains are unavoidable in any kitchen you cook in, especially this main cooking zone. So you want tiles that look good, are resistant to grease, heat, moisture an stains and most of all, very easy to clean!

How far down should the tile go behind the stove?

This is entirely a matter of personal preference. However, the further down the tile trails down the bottom of the stove and cabinets, the more protection you'll have from spills, drips and a greasy mess! As for height, the tile should reach as high as the range hood.

Backsplash Types

Glass Tiles

Glass tiles make for easy cleaning and therefore are a popular choice in kitchens. When installing, don't forget to allow additional grout space in between tiles to allow for the glass to expand from the heat!

Porcelain and Ceramic Backsplash Tiles

This is a durable, heat-resistant surface that effectively combats oil and sauce splatters. It's also very cost effective and offers a wide variety of colors and textures. It is also relatively low maintenance and easy to scrub clean.

Marble Tile

Marble is naturally resistant to heat and gives an luxurious touch to any kitchen! However, it does require more maintenance than the other options as natural stones tend to be more textured and rough, meaning grease and stains are more likely to settle into the nooks and crannies. Don't forget to properly seal your marble tile to ensure longevity of the stone!

That's the low-down on tiling behind your stove! Which option are you going with?
